WASAVP's 2026 Legislative Priorities
For more than 25 years, the Washington Association for Substance misuse And Violence Prevention (WASAVP) has worked to support and expand substance misuse and violence prevention in Washington State. WASAVP is a registered Washington State non-profit organization. We are a membership organization started in 2000 by a group of dedicated community-based prevention advocates and coalition coordinators.

Support public health by preventing substance misuse and violence (4 action items)

Establish laws and regulations that limit youth access to illegal substances and reduce their exposure to advertising for alcohol, cannabis, and tobacco/vaping products. (8 action items)

WASAVP's Report on the 2025 Legislative Session

WASAVP tracked more than 75 bills during the 2025 Washington State Legislative session and provided testimony on more than 30 of them. Ten tracked bills passed and were signed into law, with eight aligning with WASAVP’s positions and one opposing them. The 2025–2027 operating budget included some of WASAVP’s funding priorities, but not all.
WASAVP Positions and Briefing Documents Regarding Prevention-related Legislation
WASAVP has created position statements and briefing documents regarding several issues that are likely to be debated by the legislature at its upcoming sessions. These position statements serve as the foundation for WASAVP's Action Alerts that are sent to local prevention and public health workers during the legislative session.
